2015/1 – gecko plushie

Say good-bye to January Blues with this cute, colourful project, courtesy of Raphael Blumenbunt.

Lots of repetition makes this an easyish pattern, with lots of customisation options. I love the colours they’ve used here – nice and bright and not wintery at all! 🙂 plus, if you make the distance between the front legs and the back legs larger, you get an awesome kids’ scarf!

2014/88 – make a bunny!

This one is an absolutely adorable pattern – for a stuffed bunny!

Unfortunately what you see in the image to the right is all that is available on the website, no tutorial or description of the size of the panel you need to make etc.

2014/87 – snowman greetings card

This one is a bit more Christmassy, and really really easy! J Peggy Taylor has designed a gorgeous greetings card with a snowman on it. I think it looks really cute.

You could add in your own backgrounds, or keep it really simple like she has. Lots of customisation options, and pretty quick!

2014/86 – Christmas stockings by Grace@WhileWalkingMyDogs

So following on from our previous share-post, the second competition winner is Grace of WhileWalkingMyDogs.

She shared with us her 30 Christmas ornaments, and my favourite is this one – these gorgeous Christmas stockings. I know we’ve posted some a pattern for stockings already, but I really like Grace’s interpretation. It’s so simple and effective and traditional. I really recommend taking a look!

I love the tinsely top and the use of the Christmas button to glam it up a bit. A really simple and easy idea which is so versatile with just some mixing and matching of colours. You could add all sorts of buttons, beads, sequins, shiny yarn for the toes/heel…

2014/85 – Fraggle amigurumi pattern by competition winner, epicyarns!

So a few weeks ago we posted a competition to get your blog shared, here on UK Crochet Patterns. I really liked doing this and seeing what you guys have been making so will probably do this again sometime.

Anyway, the first one I want to share is an amigurumi pattern shared by epicyarns, who were first to respond to our original competition post. Look at this Fraggle pattern! Aren’t they gorgeous?!

2014/84 – mittens!

Here’s a practical one for you – mittens! Oombawka design’s pattern for mittens looks easy enough though might take a little while (it comes in multiple parts).

But don’t they look great? And so warm too. Plus the cuff is narrower and the hand so it’s comfy, won’t slip off or let the cold in.

2014/83 – 3 Christmas decorations

Here’s one for those getting ready for Christmas – 3 patterns for making Christmas tree decorations!

There’s a wreath, a Christmas tree (if you want to be a bit meta and put a tree on a tree) and my favourite of the three: an angel!

Once again I recommend using colourful beads to decorate them, especially on the Christmas tree, which you could make them look like baubles if you chose the right colours! You could add extra thread in different colours as tinsel. Perhaps you could work out how to add a miniature star o the top of the tree.

Just be sure to translate the stitches from US terms to UK terms.

2014/82 – 5 things to crochet this winter

Do you ever get to that time of year when everyone (work, school, friends, etc) wants something from you and you’re so busy and overwhelmed you just give up and do something you enjoy?

Well that’s what today’s post is for me.

Plus I’m feeling somewhat festive at the moment – which is nice since last year I felt fairly Grinch-y. So without much further ado, here are some ideas about what to crochet this winter. Some are great gift ideas, others are just perfect for the cold season.

Sukigirl has provided the pattern for this adorable little plush toy, Hobbes, by Bill Watterson. To be honest I am entirely unfamiliar with the creator or brand, I just think that the cat is adorable, and very easily customisable. But those familiar will appreciate this even more!

You can switch the orange-black pattern for tabby-brown-and-black, ginger-and-blond, or any colours you like really. You could give it a more Coraline/Tim Burton feel by using buttons for eyes. You could add a flower or bow to girlify it for little girls.

It’s in US terms so please refer to our stitch translation guide if you get stuck!

Note: this one looks a little fiddly, so is probably good for intermediates and experts.

 Good luck getting cold in this baby. Such a professional-looking style of bobble-hat, that looks really warm thanks to the densely-packed stitches! I would probably go with purple and black, or grey, or maybe white and pink and navy blue to match my new Christmas jumper 😛

Almost as cute as the boots is this XS dog jumper. (Picture not available but trust me you want to take a look). And a great idea too! Keep your doggy warm this winter with Stitch 11’s pattern – and add your own individual flair. Perhaps some wintery designs could be sewn on top?
