Question and challenge

How often do you make things for yourself?

I am, for the first time in over two years, currently making myself a hat. It’s not a gift. It’s so I can brush my hair less in order to spend more time crocheting.

How about you? Do you make things for yourself? If you don’t, I challenge you to do this – by the end of the month! I’ll show you mine if you show me yours!

  1. Hello
how right you are. I always end up making for others too. However this weekend was a “me” weekend. I went on a hat felting course and ended up with a beautiful felt hat. Now my daughter is trying to convince me it would look so good on her…..she can keep trying 🙂 I also cut and stitched 2 dresses for myself, don’t know what has come over me, but I had so much fun. xx

  2. I have made things just for myself. They have a tendency to be ambitious like a crochet dress made from thread. Right now I am adapting a top down jacket design I saw on the Lion Brand site to make my own. I hope to have it done before the first real cold snap here.

  3. I like to have something in process all the time so if I don’t need anything I’ll make stuff for others (usually chemo caps and hats & other things for the homeless). But once in a while I do need something and then I will make it for myself. My next project for “me” will probably be thrummed mittens; the winters here are so cold (humidity + wind) that regular mittens don’t keep my hands warm and thrummed mittens seem to be the warmest. I’m not sure if I’ll finish by your deadline – I’ve never made anything like this before and the patterns I’ve seen look kind of slow – but I’ll get back to you (assuming I’m successful, that is 🙂 )

  4. I try to follow the rule of if I make something for someone else then I make something for me. Kinda one for them and one for me. It doesn’t always work but I I always made things for other people I would hardly see any of my handiwork.

  5. This is a good topic. I’ve just started expanding from the occasional baby blanket make from storebought yarn to spinning and crocheting various items. So far I crocheted a shawl for myself that was accidently thrown into the dryer. Now I’m making hats and learning to knit.

I went into a frenzy of hat making. My wip is a cowl, made from cheap yarn so I can learn how to make one, then I’ll look into something to spin to make another.

  6. I must be in the minority, because I mostly make things for myself! Although at the moment I am currently making a pair of slippers for my sister.

  7. I have never made anything for myself. I once bought some material to make myself some pj bottoms, my sister saw it, loved it and I ended up making her a tote bag from it! Im going to take you up on your challenge 😉

  8. I once made myself a crochet headband….but I always make things for other people! I had a lovely idea from your posts to make an afghan or a throw for my elderly mother in law to keep her warm in winter….I just hope I find time to make it!

      • Problem is its hard to ‘think Xmas’ anytime before November! Now I’ve decided to knit a cowl for my mother-in-law but it’s making me want to knit gloves and scarves too! Not enough time definitely! Next year I will start in August! ^.^
